Who we are
Children First Uganda (CFU) is a UK-based charity (registered number 1130672) which provides support and raises funding for a Ugandan NGO, CALM Africa. This community-based organisation aims to protect and promote the rights of children living in poverty in Uganda, through delivering education and community outreach programmes.
CALM Africa works within local communities supporting vulnerable children and their families affected by extreme poverty, HIV/AIDS, malaria and other illnesses and difficulties. Many of the children they care for have lost their parents as the result of the HIV/AIDS pandemic and live in child-headed households. They also lobby to local and national Government about children’s rights, to really affect change.
The team of volunteers running CFU have one mission: to help ensure CALM Africa’s fantastic work continues, grows and develops. Some of our team members have been volunteers working in Uganda with CALM Africa involved in building schools, teaching and helping with the community outreach programmes. We support works in the capital city Kampala with street-children and in southern Uganda in the Rakai, Lyantonde and Wakiso districts, helping these children receive an education and improved standards of living.
